Clay Brook at Sugarbush

Clay Brook at Sugarbush Valutazione: 5,0 Perle

The Clay Brook is an upscale slopeside property just outside Sugarbush Village. It has 61 large units that range from studios to five-bedroom suites, all featuring full kitchens with modern appliances and washer/dryers, fireplaces, balconies, plush beds, and elegant rustic decor with wood and leather accents. Rooms are a little small, but living areas are spacious and well-equipped, and all master bedrooms have four-poster beds and jetted shower/tub combos. Property highlights include an outdoor heated pool with mountain views, a fitness center with modern cardio machines, a fine dining restaurant, and grocery delivery service.

Stowe Mountain Lodge

Stowe Mountain Lodge Valutazione: 4,5 Perle

Stowe Mountain Lodge is one of the top luxury properties in Vermont, and offers rustic elegance throughout -- from the impressive lobby with floor-to-ceiling windows to the bright, contemporary rooms. This property has a lot in the way of amenities, particularly for the area: an inviting spa, big outdoor pool with mountain views, acclaimed restaurant, state-of-the-art fitness center, 18-hole golf course, and great children's program. The rooms aren't quite as luxurious as some might expect for a hotel of this category, but they're outfitted in simple, clean mountain decor and equipped with flat-screen TVs, iPod docks, and balconies; most have working fireplaces. However, extra fees, including the mandatory valet parking fee, may make some guests feel nickel-and-dimed, and room rates are pricey.

The Woodstock Inn and Resort

The Woodstock Inn and Resort Valutazione: 4,0 Perle

The Woodstock Inn is one of the most outstanding properties in Woodstock, with beautiful, manicured grounds, quintessential Vermont architecture, a gorgeous LEED-certified spa, wonderful fitness and wellness amenities, solid dining options, and a great location in a quiet pocket in the heart of the village. Rooms are spacious and have an understated decor in earth tones, with lots of wood and green accents, plus upscale amenities and free Wi-Fi. But not all have fireplaces, and some bathrooms are unimpressive for the price.

The Trailside Inn

The Trailside Inn Valutazione: 3,5 Perle

The Trailside Inn is a bit of a contradiction, in a good way. It looks (and smells) brand spanking new, with gorgeous pine wood floors throughout and new furniture. Yet there's still a rustic, lodge-like vibe here -- there are no TVs in the rooms, and the surroundings are, in a word, tranquil. It lacks the quirkiness of a B&B (which some will appreciate), and instead favors a cleaner, less cluttered look. It's a good choice for couples looking for some alone time in a secluded setting.

Juniper Hill Inn

Juniper Hill Inn Valutazione: 3,5 Perle

This historic property has seen some pretty famous folks pass through its doors in the past -- Presidents Roosevelt, Coolidge, Wilson, and Eisenhower, as well as several famous artists, all visited this lovely B & B. The property still has a relaxing vibe -- the 16 unique rooms are decorated in an old-world style, the quiet library is an inviting place to relax, and the manicured grounds and surrounding serene woods help create a peaceful atmosphere. Those who feel they need to be connected to the rest of the world might want to look elsewhere (there’s no Internet and no TV at the inn), but this is a wonderful pick for a romantic getaway.

Amee Farm

Amee Farm Valutazione: 3,5 Perle

With its warm, urban-chic vibe, Amee Farm isn't a typical B&B. Rooms look straight out of an interior design magazine, with a near-perfect combination of rustic, warm, quaint, and stylish touches. Wide-planked hardwood floors, comfortable beds with white, soft linens, and interesting antiques are found in all the rooms. Bathrooms have granite showers with rain showerheads and updated fixtures (though not all rooms have private bathrooms). There are no TVs in rooms -- only in the common area -- but Wi-Fi is free and available throughout. One perk here is an inviting wrap-around porch with Adirondack chairs for admiring the scenery. Be prepared to hunker down and eat on-site, as Pittsfield has little more than a general store to offer.

The Pointe at Castle Hill Resort

The Pointe at Castle Hill Resort Valutazione: 3,5 Perle

The 96 rooms in the Pointe at Castle Hill offer a picturesque home base for enjoying outdoor activities in southern Vermont. Decor here fluctuates drastically: Some rooms are charming and filled with antiques, while others are more generic. Suites are bright and offer full kitchens along with modern bathrooms, while all rooms have flat-screen TVs and Keurig coffeemakers. Families might appreciate the on-site game room, indoor pool, and pet-friendly attitude of this hotel. Free shuttle service to Okemo Mountain is convenient during the winter ski season, but some guests complain about dated furniture and far distance from airports.

Swift House Inn

Swift House Inn Valutazione: 3,5 Perle

The historic Swift House Inn is located within walking distance of downtown Middlebury. The hotel's 20 rooms are spread throughout the Main House (formerly a Governor's Mansion), the Carriage House, and the Gate House. The Gate House rooms -- located a half-block from the Main House -- are the least expensive, in part due to traffic noise from Route 7. Room decor varies, allowing guests to choose a room depending on personal style. Some rooms offer a classic New England B&B vibe with floral wallpaper, fireplaces, and four-poster beds, while others are more understated, with soft-toned walls and tasteful furniture. One of the inn's highlights is its delicious and free breakfast, and an on-site restaurant, Jessica's, is a popular destination for both guests and locals.

Rabbit Hill Inn

Rabbit Hill Inn Valutazione: 3,5 Perle

The 19-room Rabbit Hill Inn combines the peaceful atmosphere of Northern Vermont with an elegant B&B experience. The clean, spacious rooms are more "L.L. Bean cozy" than "Manhattan chic," and each is individually decorated. Outstanding features in some of the rooms include wood-burning fireplaces and soaking tubs for two. All essential B&B elements -- antiques, comfy beds, a cat (named Reese) -- are accounted for, as well as some less common B&B perks (free Wi-Fi, and an on-site tavern with a skilled barman). This Vermont inn offers a a lovely restaurant with free breakfast, personalized service, and an escape from technology -- rooms are TV-free and cell phones have limited service.

The Norwich Inn

The Norwich Inn Valutazione: 3,5 Perle

The historic Norwich Inn -- where President James Monroe and Dr. Seuss have both stayed -- is a quaint, well-maintained inn with just 38 rooms. Rooms have a cozy New England feel, with floral wallpaper, Victorian antiques, and exposed brick, but they also offer modern amenities such as flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi. Rooms are divided between the Main House, Ivy House, and Walker House, and vary both in size and decor. While the inn is popular with those visiting nearby Dartmouth College, it also attracts visitors for its on-site brewery, welcoming pub, and dining room.
